The cat and the cigarette.

Recently I have basically been living on campus. All those who know me or have been studying at the university's common room see me here day and night, sleeping on the bean bags or in some corner mumbling the names of a large number of random things in Latin, Greek and sometimes Japanese. (I do like my manga). However, come night I truly awaken, and when people start going home my body kicks in and I become full of energy.

This results in me working mostly at night, and when one is studying, there is tendency to take breaks. So I go walking around the campus, in the moonlight looking at familiar buildings which during the day are dull places of torture, at night become wondrous masterpieces.

Going to the main topic of the day, I had just gone to the loo and decided to take a stroll outside when I saw something that made me stop in my tracks. It was nothing special, nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. It was just a student sitting at the fountain smoking his cigarette, the moon light catching him from behind thus his features where dark and I could see nothing but the cigarette burning in front of his mouth and his eyes. The eyes, tired, stressed, and at that moment looking at Gigi, the king of the student house who was sitting with all the elegance and arrogance that only a cat can have.

Something at that moment happened, something that will stay in my head. It lasted only a split second and I cursed myself for not having my phone on me to take a picture and thus words will have to do.
At that moment I saw something which I am not be able to explain clearly but I will try and I will ramble on and on till maybe I feel that I got the message across. I could see the connection between this student, who I still have no idea who it was, and this cat who was sitting down.

The cat knows of the pain the students are going though and in his small little world where he is the king, the all mighty ruler, he looked at his servant and he let him know he understood the pain. In that split second the student, let’s call him Steve, it sounds about right, Steve saw this affection and he felt understood and he continued to smoke in peace.
The moment was unfortunately ended by my staring at both Steve and Gigi who both noticed my staring and stared back at me with an inquisitive look which only led me to believe that they had not understood the moment which had passed.

The point of this blog is probably nothing, maybe I just wanted to make a point on the beauty of this university and how little we appreciate the things that happen here because we are always going about our daily routine and never have the time to just take a breath and say, look at this, this is amazing, we are living here. It does not take long, just a split second but that is all that is needed to immortalise a moment in life. If we take just a second to appreciate what we have, we can find things that amuse, inspire or just plain relax us.

Take a second, close your eyes, and look at what is around you and you will find, always find something which was not there and it will be something which can blow your mind to bits.

While You're Sitting

Sitting,
fidgeting,
talking,
listening.

Reading,
thinking,
writing,
remembering.

Drinking,
eating,
breathing,
relaxing.

Playing,
talking,
meeting,
networking.

Annoying,
joking,
pestering,
poking.

Why to just do it.

We wake up
we start,
thinking.

We get up
we keep,
thinking.

We start working
we still,
think.

We
do not
just,
do.

We
do not
just,
act.

Action
is
product
of
thought.

Thought
is
product
of
action.

but
one
cannot
exist
without
the other.

The Fall of Europe?

The fall of Europe, the largest execution of democracy ever seen by man kind, 500 million people eligible to vote for one parliament, 500 million peoples' lives being affected by this one council directly in their every day lives, at their work, at their home.

Yet, this has failed, Europe has started to fall, the depression triggered one of the largest waves of austerity measures being taken with countries helping each other to try and survive, wave after wave of bankruptcies, of governments failing to cope with the debt which they created, for their utopian democratic solution to all problems.

Now, now the people have lost faith, they have lost faith in the governments which have led them though tough times, because these are the same governments that led them into them. The people are hungry, they are poor, they are without jobs, they see other countries, other nationals come to their country and do the jobs which they had ignored and did not want to do because it was beneath them.

Now the people want their independence back, the independence from each other, and to what cost, to the birth of ultra-nationalism. Ultra-nationalism has risen, the results of this election have shown the power of these parties, have shown the unease and distrust the people have in the current system. This show the system is not working, and something needs to be done before these ultra-nationalists, these neo-nazis, these communists these extremists take over what we hold dear to us.

Many of us do not realise, what Europe is, what Europe symbolises. Europe is the nation that the people built from centuries of war, of strife. It is the culmination of thousands of years of conflict, of culture, of bonds being built and broken. This earthquake which is resonating though its lands right now should not be the fall of this system, as flawed as it is, as ineffective as it is. No, this should be the wake up call, this should be energy that we use to fix what is wrong, this is where we let our voice to be heard.

This is where true leaders will shine, those who can keep their people together, those leaders which can get the trust back, the trust which was lost. We need a leader, who can make us believe in the European dream once more, it will be five more years till the next election. It will be five long years of  hard work, but I still have hope that the system can work, I still believe in the dream of a democratic world.

I still believe those around me can see what I can see, and soon the change will come. This was a great loss for the EU, it has shown that the people do not trust it any more, but this should not be the reason why we give up on so much potential. Let this be the moment that the European Union win our trust back and make us believe once more in this dream.

Passion Love and memory...

It begins with a spark
a flame
so small
yet strong

the kindle is plenty
the potential is great

then it turns into a fire
great and
roaring
immortal

the brighter it burns the faster
it grows,
it adapts,
it morphs,

then the fire becomes a glow
warm and comforting
always there
of a past or future.

Shadows

Living among us,
part of our life,
yet invisible
unseen.

Those that we know
those that know us
but we don't know,
the pain

the suffering they pass
is hidden behind a façade
energy
enthusiasm.

they fake their sorrow,
as part of their life
lack of sleep
lack of rest

they live on air
survive on what they can
they cling to their life
and don't let go

desperately wanting,
hoping things will change,
but it never changes
they are shadows

when the sun burns the brightest
they are the strongest
however when the sun
goes to sleep

they disappear
they are forgotten
they are part of the darkness.

And a small garden filled with sculptures...

Our life is made of moments, moments which we live in they are, or could be anything but when they are they are glorious sculptures set in stone built form our actions and they will stay there for ever not moving not acting just reminding us.

Good or bad our actions our decisions we would have done them and cannot change them but we can learn from them so that the new ones moulded out of the ever flowing stream of time can be folded better moulded into something that will be no less glorious but all the more closer to perfection. Thus we trudge on though this garden, one small garden filled with our sculptures among the millions others and hope that one of our own sculptures will impress others and show them how to not make the same mistakes.
